Water oxidises steel. It does not degrade it — it reveals it. In the rust that forms, the place itself is inscribed: its matter, its history, its myth. The work no longer represents. It contains.

The project 60 waters · 60 paintings · a history of the world

60 symbolic sites of world history. At each one, water is collected — water that holds time, memory, the weight of that place. Applied to raw steel, it triggers rust. The rust makes the painting. What was there is now, also, in the metal. The rust is the painting and the memory.

From the cradle of humanity in East Africa to the rivers of the earliest civilisations. From the sacred waters of the great religions to the oceans of the explorers. To the water carried by astronauts into space.

Each painting does not represent a place. It contains a fragment of one.
